Them Days

Yes, it's been hot. Everything slowed down, sort of like in the South. Only without the sweet tea. The border collie prefers Gatorade and a lemon. We stayed indoors most of the week watching The Avengers on DVD. I've been keeping watch, but things were pretty quiet. Until this morning, that is. The humidity broke overnight and now it's Canada all over again. I suspected that the natives who've been splayed out on branches much of the week would be out running their traps...

...I was right. And I was right on their heels up the side of this tree. So close I could see their little hind leg muscles quivering. If I had only been wearing my spikes, I would be flossing my teeth with squirrel tail.

  1. Oh but the natives don't realize that they're dealing with the Wichita Lineman, do they Riley T? I say let the heat and humidity lull them into careless ways, while you have the spikes ready for the second wave. That's what all the great crime fighters do. But, check with the border collie to be absolutely sure.

  2. BTW, ask the border collie if he's tried Long Island iced tea? It's delicious and easy--just mix lemon Gatorade (or lemonade) with equal parts sweet tea. Pour over ice and enjoy.

  3. Excuse me Riley T--the heat is getting to me! Make that tea an Arnold Palmer(half sweet tea half lemonade). The Long Island has vodka and i'm pretty sure the housemates don't want the border collie drinking hard stuff with his insulin problems. Hope this warning gets to you soon enough as it's the drink hour here. . .

  4. riley and i were wondering about that. we'd both heard stories about people getting silly after a number of long island teas...coudln't figure out if it was the gatorade or the lemonade that was making them goofy. now we know it was the vodka.

  5. Faye is rather a lightweight in the drinking department so that explains a lot. She's not much of a golfer, either, so I don't know how she's so intimately acquainted with Arnold Palmer and his drinking habits. Go figure.
